pied flycatcher ficedula hypoleuca

Just a bit of Saturday fun. We had a marvellous time at Lake Tkern last weekend and it was very easy to keep other people at a safe distance. I think short trips from home and the occasional overnight stay will be what we'll be doing this summer.

For along time this year I saw very few Pied flycatchers and they very flighty. Then they were everywhere and some let me get quite close.

There are quite a lot of these around this year but they're very flighty so it's hard to get close. I got lucky with this one.

Off to celebrate midsummer with friends tomorrow morning. Back in a few days.

Spotted this beautilful couple, first sighting of this year.

... although there was a third fledgling that was exploring another branch.

Don't see these as often as the males.

I got a bit closer for this one. :-)

This Pied Flycatcher made a great model as he more or less ignored me, flying down to catch insects at my feet. I revisited him on a number of occasions.

Met Steve at Landguard again today and managed to find a couple of these fab little birds, cheers Steve B (:
