pied oystercatcher

  1. Oh do go away!!!

    Oh do go away!!!

We were now working our way towards Ocean Beach, stopping wherever we could and I couldn't resist taking this picture as it was such a nice setting. And I do like Pied Oystercatchers. Think I'll need to find a colourful bird for you tomorrow, as I seem to have shown you so many black and white...
  2. Catching the shade

    Catching the shade

A bit further along the inlet, in a sheltered part, was a Pied Oystercatcher. Found some nice shade for himself, didn't he.
  3. Rock climber

    Rock climber

Just seemed rather funny, this Pied Oystercatcher appearing from behind that rock on the far side of the bay. Another odd thing is, that either I didn't see any, or just didn't photograph them, but I've no pictures of this species taken in South Australia! Quite a lot of pictures in Queensland...

  5. One of two

    One of two

Australia has two oystercatcher species, this is the Pied Oystercatcher, the other one (Sooty) is completely black apart from the legs and bill.

  7. In the shade

    In the shade

A Pied Oystercatcher was further along that same stretch of beach and appeared to be trying to keep cool.
  8. Pied Oystercatcher / Australian Oystercatcher

    Pied Oystercatcher / Australian Oystercatcher

I filmed this Australian Oystercatcher in the early morning at the north east coast of Heron Island while he was continuously calling.
  9. Better dressed

    Better dressed

After some refreshments at a rather nice cafe, we set of again to explore the headland. Cruising along the coast road, we stopped for a few minutes overlooking the bay and I found another Oyc... obviously in the pink and very happy with himself.
  10. Over-dressed

    Over-dressed

Then a bit further along from the gulls, were a few Pied Oystercatchers. I thought this one had tried some fancy dress clothes on LOL
  11. Distinctive

    Distinctive

Just come back onto the beach after a paddle was a Pied Oystercatcher, one of only two species in Australia (mind we only have one here don't we!!)
  12. Another on the beach

    Another on the beach

A bit further away (well quite a bit) was a Pied Oystercatcher. Don't know, but guessing there may be a nest over there somewhere. The public aren't allowed on this section of the beach, it's a reserved area for the breeding birds.
  13. Some black and white friends

    Some black and white friends

On the beach. While standing in the cemetery, I could see some Oystercatchers through a gap in the trees. Well actually all I could make out at the time was some black blobs LOL.
  14. What's the difference..?

    What's the difference..?

Between our Oystercatcher and the Pied Oystercatcher I wonder? They basically look the same! It was a shame the light was in the wrong direction for his colouring, but I couldn't get the other side of him 'cos he moved LOL

They do like the mussels which are in plentiful supply at the beach.

Still enjoying its mussel. it wasannoying the way people walked in front of the camera while trying to photograph them.
  23. Pied Oystercatcher

    Pied Oystercatcher

I got sick of sitting around not feeling well, so I went for a drive and got lucky with Pied Oystercatchers. Thank you very much for your concern KC, I will see how I go!!!!
