From bird hide at Drain L; Robe - South East of South Australia. Gradually coming to grips with the new Panasonic FZ300...lots of promise to come (I hope!)
There was a family of Pied Stilts... can you see how long the ones look for that adult top right!!!
They seem to go on.... .and on LOL
Couldn't resist showing this for Saturday fun
We had, shall we say an interesting journey to our accommodation in Perth. Saw signs of a bush fire, got lost on the outskirts of the city and went round in circles a couple of times. Then when we got to the house.... fortunately the key safe was exactly the same as my own one, so that bit was...
I tried to move closer to this stilt by keeping a bush between us and walking up behind it.
Ooops.... it was ummmm. .... rather boggy, so I gave that idea up!!
We then set off to find the hide at Buckley's Hole, where I'd also been with Ken 3 weeks before.
There wasn't too much around there this time, but close to the hide was this very handsome Pied Stilt.
Quite a nice bird to finish the Queensland section of my trip!
WOW What a time I'd had with...
I only just noticed the bright reflected stripes across his chest; obviously coming from the ripples on the water.
I've only just realised too, that these guys have a slightly upturned bill! But you can't really see it in this angle.
Strange how things suddenly occur to you isn't it.
Out in the middle of the water was a whole collection of birds on a wee strip of mud.
This included the main star for me Caspian Tern, along with Royal Spoonbill, Pied Stilt and Grey Teal.
... with a few names. Also called Australian Stilt and White-headed Stilt.
They used to be in the Black-winged Stilt family until they were split off a few years ago, along with Black-necked Stilt from the Americas.
As you can see, this guy was a bit distant, on the other side of the lake.
Just to let everyone know, I am feeling a little better, but still have a way to go. Thank you all for such kind messages, it made me feel a lot better.
