It was making quite a ruckus and was at my neighbor's birdbath. We have bald eagles in the neighborhood so it was keeping a wary eye out, though could not understand why it was so noisy calling attention to itself.

On my way home from dock today, I heard a piliated woodpecker gently tapping, and spied it working this tree. Looks like it may be building a nest for spring. This is probably one of the two I spied in a different location earlier this morning.
usually you hear this bird before you ever see it. It softly tap tap taps on the tree trunk or limbs. It has a distinctive call too. Usually seen in pairs. Tough to capture because often well hidden and high up. Also extremely shy. Will fly away if they see you watching them.
