This photo is dedicated to all the young pink footed geese that arrive at martinmere for the first time ever. To see such unfamilar territory must be daunting indeed.
I would have missed this bird amongst the captive swans and geese but it was pointed out by another birder. Two or three others were busy photographing it. It was easy to get within several feet.
This is one of those times when the goose in question is in a panic and is doing his wild plunging under the waters, throwing himself around, getting out of the way tricks. Not sure if it works but it certainly looks confusing!
Went to the mere today with the hope of taking some fllight shots. Conditions seemed perfect, half decent light (some of the time!) mild and no wind at all. Quite a lot of whoopers have returned but sadly nothing felt like flying except for a few distant geese.
The other day at martinmere I was really surprised to see about a dozen pink footed geese right outside the swan link hide. Usually they are way off in the fields. Took the opportunity to get some close head shots.
Spent a few hours watching these birds today. Must have been a good couple of thousand. It was amazing to see how organised their coming in to land was. Pictures were very difficult as i was shooting into the sun.
