  1. Mallards (male & female)

    Mallards (male & female)

Taken at the Shadow Cliffs Regional Recreation Area (Lake Boris) at about 10m. Apparently this is a first for me: for a moment I thought I had misidentified the male (thought it was something other than a mallard), but realized this is the mallard male in eclipse plumage. Never photographed...
  2. Mallard (male)

    Mallard (male)

Taken at the Shadow Cliffs Regional Recreation Area (Lake Boris) at about 15m. Caught this male bathing.
  3. Mallard (female)

    Mallard (female)

Taken at the Shadow Cliffs Regional Recreation Area (Lake Boris) at about 15m. Caught this female bathing. Was struck by the fact that the females apparently do have a tiny bit of green iridescence on the neck.
  4. Mallard (duckling)

    Mallard (duckling)

Taken at Lake Merritt (Oakland, CA, USA) at about 5m. D'aaaaaw!

  7. Mallards (female)

    Mallards (female)

Taken at the Shadow Cliffs Regional Recreation Area (Lake Boris) at about 5m. I have a whole series of photos of these two at 5m to nearly point-blank range I'll share eventually. They were all but oblivious to us while they were feeding, and the setting was lovely.
  8. Mallard (male)

    Mallard (male)

Taken at the Shadow Cliffs Regional Recreation Area (Lake Boris) at about 30m. QUACK!
  9. Mallard (female)

    Mallard (female)

Taken at the Shadow Cliffs Regional Recreation Area (Lake Boris) at about 10m. Napping-away in the shade, quite comfortable with us being close because she was on the other side of a small pond.
  10. Mallard (male)

    Mallard (male)

Taken at the Shadow Cliffs Regional Recreation Area (Lake Boris) at about 20m. This fellow seemed to be bathing. I caught this while he was flapping away to get the water off.
  11. Mallard (male)

    Mallard (male)

Taken at the Martin Luther King Jr. Regional Shoreline at about 15m. I simultaneously enjoy and get frustrated by the challenge of photographing male mallards. Trying to capture their iridescence on their heads in a way I like is tough (for me, anyway).
  12. Mallards in Flight

    Mallards in Flight

Taken at the Martin Luther King Jr. Regional Shoreline at about 100m. I was struck by the colorful wings, especially on the female (I had no idea the female had some color to her).
  13. Mallard (female)

    Mallard (female)

Taken at the Martin Luther King Jr. Regional Shoreline at about 5m. A stately portrait of an oft-seen duck.
  14. Mallard (female)

    Mallard (female)

Taken at the Martin Luther King Jr. Regional Shoreline at about 9m.
  15. Mallard (male)

    Mallard (male)

Taken at the Martin Luther King Jr. Regional Shoreline at about 9m. The female swam upstream a bit and the male lingered on his own for a bit for this photo-op.

    Mallards

I found a group of male mallards sleeping together under a bush.
