Notice the Greater Sand Plover has moulted into non-breeding plumage before arriving at its wintering ground while the Lesser is still in the process of moulting to non-breeding plumage.

This migrant bird travelled thousands of miles to reach our shores during the migratory season. This particular bird has probably just shed its breeding plumage when it arrived in Sep 2012.
