Not a shot to show off the plumage of the bird, but more of a memory from the few days spent on Skomer this summer. It was a glorious afternoon and I managed to catch this puffin heading back in, with one of the anchored tankers behind.
One had landed a tad too close to another and a brief scuffle broke out. Probably from the stress of life, catching fish, being tailed by gulls, demanding children and nosey photographers!
Although a little late in the season, I had promised the missus Puffins. She was dissappointed with the distant views at Bempton as they were at sea forming rafts. A trip a few miles down the coast was much better on this occasion, thank God - I'd have had another nagging for dragging her 90...
Performing an emergency stop before crash landing on the cliffs. Strange how some days they streamed back in with masses of eels, yet others they came back, generally without anything.
