    Juvenile Red-backed shrike

This is just to show that Ove was correct when he wrote last week that swinging the tail means there are juveniles nearby.

    Red-backed shrike (male)

Saw lots of Red-backed shrikes but it was hard to get close enough for pictures.

    Red-backed Shrike

There's a bit of an optical illusion with the tail here.

    Saturday Fun - Soaking Shrike

This juvenile Red-backed Shrike didn't seem too happy to be caught in a heavy shower.

    Red-backed Shrike

I noticed that Alok commented on us being in Croatia during the World Cup. It was certainly an exciting time to be there when Croatia made it to the final. It was a huge event for them and it was fun to share it. There were a lot of Red-backed Shrikes in Croatia though Black Redstarts were...
  6. Too close!

    Too close!

It began to feel absurd to squeeze the Shrike into the frame with no space around it. I should have concentrated on composition rather than getting as close as possible but this was a novel experience for me.

    Red-backed Shrike

I've never previously got as close to Red-backed Shrikes as I did that day.

This one was exhibited at the Photographic Trade Fair in Stockholm during the weekend as part of Biofoto's exhibition. The Stockholm branch of Biofoto has about 80 members.

    Juvenile Red-backed Shrike

At this point I was having difficulty fitting it into the frame.

    Red-backed Shrike

I had a lot of fun photographing juvenile Red-backed Shrikes that day. I got so close that I had difficulty fitting the birds in the frame (lots of headless or tailless shots) and I almost felt I could have stroked them. :-) This was taken from a bit further away but I like the pose. It's...

  25. Where are you folks

    Where are you folks

I spotted the bird on the road side while my wife was driving. She stopped the car quite near the bird. To our surprise the bird did not fly away but went on crying. An other bird was answering from somewhere. I could take as much photo as I wanted without disturbing the bird. Finally we went on...
