red-backed shrike

I'd seen Red-backed Shrikes in Europe but this was my first one in the UK. It was located at St Mary's Bay in Kent for several days and I was so glad I went to see it.

Red-backed shrike spews up a pellet

About a week ago I posted some shots of a family of red-backed shrikes. As I come by their "living-room" on my daily walk I feel they somehow have got used to me sitting there on a bench about 30 yards from them. I would like to share two more pictures that were taken in a series...

This is the third picture of about fifty I have just taken. While the young birds are being fed in the blackberry bush, this parent is keeping watch on his favorite twig.

I discovered the family yesterday on an evening walk, so I took my digiscoping equipment there today. It took half an hour of just sitting to convince the parents they had nothing to fear. The valid sign was that they took their favorite position: one parent was perched on an exposed...

I've managed at last to see a couple this year. all other sites where I used to see them in previous years seem to have none this year.

I saw one of these while I was living in England, in South Africa we saw them on 8 different occasions.
