red squirrel sciurus vulgaris

I'm surprised at how little the Siskin looks in comparison to the Red Squirrel even though the Siskin is much closer.

We had no Internet for over a week and work's been hectic so I've drifted away from Bird forum I'm afraid. We have a new boss now and even if things at work are still stressful I'll try to post more regularly.

The main problem with photographing squirrels on the balcony is that I have to back off to get them in focus.The was taken from the bathroom. Most of these pictures get binned but occasionally I get something I like and this is a favourite.

Off to London to visit the BETT show (technology and education for a few days. No camera unfortunately but it should be fun.

She is a great little model. We're off to the south of Sweden for a week tomorrow via Lake Tkern where we're staying for 2 days. Not sure whether I'll have time to post but i'm taking my laptop. Some sunshine is promised but not much warmth.

We'll had some great opportunities to photograph the Red Squirrels on the balcony recently. They spend a lot of time hiding and digging up hazelnuts in the plant-pots.

Looks a bit worried about something. We have 2 on the feeders almost all the time at the moment.

Red Squirrels, normally so active, can also sit for long periods sitting still and looking around them. I sometimes wonder what goes on in their heads at such times.

I've seen Red Squirrels in Scotland on a few occasions but this was I first time I've photographed them. There were 3 at once at one point. Of course here in Sweden they're at the feeders all the time but in low light in the rain this was a real challenge - and a lot of fun.

Squirrels are mostly very active but they can spend surprisingly long periods just sitting and watching what's going on around them.

Not really sharp anywhere but it makes me smile.
