Well.... apparently the bird Hans was trying to get information about was Red-tailed Black Cockatoos. His new friends: husband said while they were often here he'd not seen them for a bit.
However, the contractor with him said that they flew over his house every evening on their way to roost...
by the "smile" on this Red-tailed Black Cockatoo. That raised crest shows an angry bird. This was the closest I got, then we all stepped back away and he calmed down. I'll show you tomorrow why he was so upset about us getting close ... and then we'll move on to Aug 20. Oh, and yes...
As the weather is closing in here and no oppurtunity to get the camera out I was checking photos taken on our Sydney trip last Nov. This Cockatoo was quite obliging to sit and preen, we only have Yellow-tailed Black Cockatoos around here, on odd occasions, so a very exciting find!
Today is fly day, these shots were all taken on my last trip to the Kimberley's I hope they are up to your expectations all shots taken with 500 f/4 image stabilising lens handheld
Took the dogs for a walk this afternoon and saw these beauties munching on nuts in the park.
They seem to be almost resident in this area and there are quite a few of them around.
Not far away were the white Tailed Blacks which I also got a shot at .
This is the second image of a pair to demonstrate one difference between the male and female red-tailed cockatoo. This female is preening and showing her striped orange/yellow tail feathers rather than the bright red of the male. Note also the white spots on the face and body of the female.
