This common hawk is said to prefer mice, as big as it is,but will eat anything in a pinch even carion. I've only observed it twice with prey and both times it was with a squirrel.
This may not be my best perched bird pic. That honor, so far, may go to the Anna's hummer "giving me the evil eye" that I posted back on October 30. But I don't want to bother Ian with moving that one or bore everybody else by bumping it up. This one I didn't post earlier because three...
Came across this guy on side of the road yesterday. The photo is a bit busy because of the thicket he was in but I like that it shows it's namesake red tail.
I saw 4 Red-tailed hawks this morning at Sulphur Springs Valley, 2 were the normal looking western morphs, and 2 were dark morphs. I was lucky to catch one of each in flight.

Red-tailed Hawk that let us get real close while driving in Western Oklahoma. My camera has been problematic with focusing on hawks, which has ruined several nice shots I thought I had.

Neither the crows nor the red-tail would give but neither would go right to the carcass either. The crows stood in a field about 50 yards...
Spent the morning (just at sun-rise) at tillie Creek camp grounds. Target bird is Red-naped Sapsucker and Cedar Waxwings. Both species were in the grounds, and images were recorded, though the waxwings remained too high in the trees, so these images will, in all probability, be binned. On the...
