Another one from yesterdays walk in the park, found this un hanging out with the Thrushes. Its the first shot of a Redwing I have got in this country, got some in Norway last may.
Ive had the best views last weekend of these birds ever, less than 10 feet away at times feeding in berry trees in a busy carpark, at time they just froze as people passed on the footpath next to the trees.
I made my usual stop at Newnham on the way home from the Forest of Dean to look for Siskins (and for a coffee and cake!)
As I scoured the trees for Siskins, trying to sort them out from the Greenfinch etc., this bird just begged to be photographed. I took a few shots of it and it just got nearer...
Hundreds of winter thrushes were present this afternoon, redwing, fieldfare and Mistle thrush. Only the Redwing ventured close enough to be captured by the camera.
Have had a flock of up to about 500 of these in the area , but they have never landed close enough for a pic. Got everything wrong. first it took me by surprise as it was a singleton, I was exposing for snow and got too excited and forgot to alter the settings, but as its a "first for me...
A Mistle Thrush had been guarding a good supply of berries on an ornamental Rowan in a private garden. Whenever it moved away one or two Redwings and a raiding party of Waxwings would take advantage of a hassle-free feast.
A lookout!!......keeping a watchful eye out for his pals as they tuck in to the berrys on the nearby bushes.....Two Kestrels are on the prowl, so he had better say his prayers.
there was a Redwing :) Won't win any prizes i know, as it was in the shade amongst all the branches, but it was the closest i got to one, so was more of a frame filler, than all the rest i attempted :)
Was a number of these flying around, eating berries...though getting anywhere near them proved problamatic, as my approach to get within camera range always seemed to be spotted by 'look outs' in other trees :) - Mike
