    Reedy

Well Peeps, The weather stopped me from getting out yesterday, and looks like its going to do the same today. Very wet here, so its three more from last June for y'all today. Not sure if this uns a juve or not?
  4. Reed Warbler

    Reed Warbler

Summer and its visitors seem so far back now so this is a little reminder.
  5. Juv Reed Warbler

    Juv Reed Warbler

I thought it was perhaps a wren when I first spotted it, with that stumpy tail, but then the adults came hurrying over and all became clear.

There were what seemed to be several little groups, presumably with parents introducing their young to the Big Wide World.

    Juv Reed Warbler

Just out the nest I'd say as it's lacking a fair few feathers. It was pottering around on the edge of the reeds, waiting for its parents to bring it some food.

    Another from the Reservoirs.

  18. Preening Reed Warbler

    Preening Reed Warbler

From the Reservoirs the other week. I'm saving my last upload again, as there's been two failed attacks again this morning. The first was the Raptor that scares everything (still not had a decent view of it). The second was a male Sparrowhawk that was on the fence just long enough for me to...

  21. Another Reed Warbler

    Another Reed Warbler

I was hoping to catch the juvenile Magpies today, but next door's brats are in the garden, so little chance of that. Actually, I think they're out there digging up all the Peanut Trees that the Squirrels planted for them earlier in the year.|=)| So here's another Reed Warbler (I've still got...
  22. Reed Warbler (I think this is another juvenile)

Reed Warbler (I think this is another juvenile)

The two juvenile Magpies won't leave the tree long enough for me to get pictures, so here's another Reed Warbler instead. I seem to remember this was a juvenile, but I can't make out any yellow in the gape.
  23. Reed warbler???

    Reed warbler???

It's certainly a warbler, and it's definitely in the reeds. I think the call was about as described in my bird book, but that could have been from some other bird nearby, and I'm not sure I know how to "read" those call descriptions anyway. So if somebody wants to correct my ID of this...
  24. I still can't work this out

I still can't work this out

I posted this, and another picture, a while back in the main forum. A few people responded, but I'm still not 100% sure what I'm looking at here. It's a juvenile Reed Warbler, but: Is it's leg deformed and wrapped around it's throat? Or is it just scratching in an odd way (apparently they...
  25. My first Reed Warbler

    My first Reed Warbler

For a few years now I've been going to a local nature reserve, trying to spot (and hopefully photograph) one of the many Reed Warblers which breed there in the reedbeds. The little blighters were always only about 2-4 metres away but I could never see any of them. Anyways, I got lucky on Sunday...
