Had a couple of pints outside the Cutter in Ely on sunday evening. Walked through the cathedral grounds, and spotted this Rook backed up by the cathedral.
Just managed to photograph this rook flying away as he carried away this huge branch from the edge of the resevoir. He had spent ages trying to get a grip and balance of it! Good on him
Large numbers of Rooks and Daurian Jackdaws have been migrating north along the east coast of South Korea over the last couple of weeks. I believe they are a bit later this year because of heavy snow falls in mid February and early March.
Had put my rig away, and sat waiting at the stop for the bus home from Rye. This fella came and parked on the sign, let me get my rig out and fire off a few shots before flying off. It was its upper mandible that got my attention.
This Rook has been visiting the feeders this week he has taken a liking to Sunflower Kernels its comical watching him trying to pick the seeds up with such a large Bill.
I don't know why these Rooks were trying to get through the thick ice. Maybe they wanted some water to drink.
Anyway it was an opportunity from some close shots of Rooks while the waterfowl kept their distance.
