    Rook

Not the prettiest face perhaps, but check out that metallic finish! However, one of my favourite sights in our countryside, is seeing a flock of Rooks playing in the sky on a very windy day.

Rook with deformed - overgrown beak

This rook was feeding at a motorway service station on discarded fast food - seemed in reasonable condition considering the overgrown beak.

Allways think that rooks remind me of Ronnie Wood off the Rolling Stones.
  7. A rainy day Rook

    A rainy day Rook

Seeing as it has not stopped raining all day, thought this would be a suitable shot.I do quite like this shot, even though it was taken through a window, still adequate plumage detail and rain drops, better than many of my out door shots!!!.Quite fond of this pr of feeder raiders, who visit several...

    Barefaced Crow

Yes,this apparently ,is the local name for Rook. I do enjoy taking shots of corvids ,and I now have a pr of rooks visiting my garden feeders.several times a day, usually just the one,but occassionally the partner arrives,Quite strange,as I did not think that Rooks ate bird seed, but this pr,eat...

You usually take crows as just big black birds, but when seen up close their colours do show up

  14. Crows at nighting site - 3

Crows at nighting site - 3

Not much of a quality picture, not a big deal in terms of species: Rooks and Jackdaws. What makes this picture special is its exposure time - 25 seconds. Pretty much for a bird picture, huh ? I was lucky to capture these pics because of the harsh winter in Romania, which forced the crows to find...

  22. Rook Call

    Rook Call

This Rook was calling to another on a neighbouring tree. I waited for the other one to call and was ready for the shot when this one replied. I really like these birds. They always looks as gnarled and ancient as the trees which they favour. Ron

As I've said many times, Motorway Services are the places to look for Rooks (and Starlings).

Black and blue and wet all over

The rooks were also busy feasting on pine nuts, and again mostly digging up the ones that others (the nutcrackers?) had buried earlier in the week.

I told you I was sober officer!!

This Rook was one of the many corvids seen at the various services stations on the M6. My last stop before turning off into the Yorkshire Dales for the night.
