Apologies for 3 of the same today but a first for the UK for me not had one in a while and had 2 misses on Rosy Starling in the past so made up to catch up with one today.
On Sunday we met a flock of pink starlings (about 20 birds).
From these birds breathed the wind of the countries of eternal summer.
Pastor roseus (Linnaeus, 1758)
A strong migrant it winters in India and tropical Asia. In India in winter, it often appears to outnumber the local starlings and mynas. I have seen hordes of them flocking together. Shot at full zoom(2000mm), AP Mode, ISO 400 Auto; with a bit of a crop.
This was taken on a pass through the mountains from Karamay to Altay where we came upon a huge flock of these Rosy Starlings. They were seen to nest amongst the rocks and were still gathering nesting material.
