Final Tawny Update: The RSPCA vet has advised to leave well alone. She doubts it is feather mite and is more akin to a brood patch particularly at this time of year despite the feather shafts still being present. As the bird is not stressed (which it wasn't when we saw it) she feels that it...
  11. Yellowhammer

    Yellowhammer

In fact most of this image is yellow (!) the background being gorse in full bloom. Tawny update: At last a response from the local authority! The Ranger service have a bird handler whom they are going to contact with a view to cleaning out the box and treating the bird. If this fails, I have...

Most Auks I think are a bit Chaplinesque, comical little characters.

    Sedge Warbler

I went to Newport Wetlands a few weeks back while on holiday. I was lucky enough to have this lovely warbler fly close by as I was in the cafe having a cup of coffee (it was shot through glass). I was drenched to the skin (I'd got caught in a squall) but he stayed long enough for me to get a...

    Garganey

Gosh I'm tired... having got back from my holiday on Saturday evening, my birding pal wanted to go to Kinnordy on Sunday and then leave to go to Fife at 6.30am on Monday. Sooo I'll start with the Kinnordy visit on Sunday when I at last saw the Garganey, a Lifer for me and quite a rarity up...

    Fledgling House sparrow

It's mum was just above the youngster, due to depth of field,i.e her being out of focus, I decided to crop from portrait to landscape and give the fledgling the spot light. Shame about the leaf just in front of it's beak though.

    Kestrel (male)

Saw this Kestrel pre-occupied watching potential lunch, whilst on my way into my mother's. My camera was on the passengers seat, stopped in the middle of the road, as you do, got a few shots off before he realised I was there.
