    This is a lifer! I didn't realize what this bird was until I viewed the photo at home. I like how this photo shows a microcosm of this bird's world in the oak. The canopy makes for great photos when small birds are kind enough to come close.

    A group of birders had an app on the phone imitating birds well would you believe it attracted a Ruby-crowned kinglet? Time for me to rid myself of the flip phone and get serious.

    I see him a lot but getting a decent picture is hard for me but this one came out well even though it would have been nice if the red on the top of his head was showing.

    Ruby-crowned Kinglet even showing a speck of th Ruby crown. Ruby-crowned Kinglets are olive-green birds with a prominent white eyering and white wingbar. This wingbar contrasts with an adjacent blackish bar in the wing. The “ruby crown” of the male is only occasionally visible.

    Very cooperative for a couple of minutes while it feasted off insects from the bottom of leaves.

    Here is a Ruby-crowned Kinglet - not your usual "water bird", but I photographed it while it searched for insects on a rotten log, floating at the edge of a lake. It was a beautiful, sunny winter day and I was enjoying the little birds which spend the winter at our local birding...
