Back in the autumn of 2006 we had the first Aberdeenshire Scottish Bash - and a good one it was too.
Shortly after meeting up we moved on to Meikle Loch and there I got two lifers within half an hour, this picture has one of them, the Little Stint. I think it makes a good comparison...

Ruff is another species I don't see that often (at least not in a photographical position) so pleased to get this shot. The bird on the right I think is a Black-tailed Godwit coming out of summer plumage, as the bill appears to be straight, but I stand to be corrected on this.

I was able to get out again on Sunday to enjoy this young Ruff up close. This time the sun was shining and it made all the difference. She was feeding well and stayed within ~10 metres range. This young bird is the first opportunity I've had to see Ruff up close and it's been a delight |=)|

It don't get much closer than this....nearly full frame at 800mm at minimum focus distance (16ft)...if I'd had a smaller lens with me they would have got better as it came within 5ft...I was tempted to get my macro lens out of the bag.

Have been busy lately so not been out with the camera much but managed a close encounter with this guy, right down to 5ft so just had to sit and watch at that point.....love it when that happens...no hide as well.
