never managed to see this beautiful gull in Europe, despite many hours of seawatching in Belgium and the Netherlands in my younger days.
Finally saw my first ones during a Pelagic trip from Cape Town, ten years ago. This one was taken during a pelagic trip in Monterey Bay a few years later.
Okay, if you live within 75 miles of Pennington Flash, you have to make the effort to see this bird. It's putting on an amazing display. I could only stay for half an hour and I got some fabulous captures. I make no excuse for putting three shots on of this wonderful bird.
There was a pair of these and I get the feeling that this is the other bird. Regardless, this one shows the "mirrors" on the wing tips, not visible in yesterday's image. Wonderful comments. Thanks.
