Always a joy watching the ebb and flow of their movements along the beach. Though the "Birds of America" is out of date, it's worth reading the colorful prose which describes each species.
Shorebirds feeding "fast and furious" was a good test for the new Nikon P300. It passed with flying colors with it's 7 frames per second speed and fast auto focus.
We went to Minsmere yesterday but it was dull and grey and there were few birds about, so I haven't got any new photos this week. Here is yet another shot of Sanderlings on the beach at Gorleston on a freakishly sunny day a couple of weeks ago. Ron
At 4:20 pm today, the tide was almost at its height - 13 foot. Water covered most of the rocks at the Iona jetty end, driving this group of sanderlings to a high point at around 20 meters from the shore.
This is a bit of a long shot to show the waves which gave some of the great backgrounds to prevous shots. Some waves were bigger and got these birds moving...as well as me. With these birds , if you do not risk getting soaked then you are not near enough!
These birds are such fun to observe and a challenge to photograph. Never still for a second. I was never able to get a decent shot of them with my digiscope set up. I finally got my new lens a couple days ago. Voila!
