Scarlet Macaw (Ara macao subso. guayaquilensis) Bosque del Ro Tigre Lodge, Osa Peninsula, Puntarenas Province, Costa Rica. About 1 km east of the town Dos Brazos de Ro Tigre. Pacific secondary rain forest at ca. 130 m (427 ft) elevation.
Stanley fortunatley had these birds low down in the trees to get some great shots. When I was at Carara area they were all in the tree tops and this was the best I could manage. Still a fantastic bird to see.

These two endangered Scarlet Macaws were in the air over Carate, Costa Rica. We saw as many as 22 in the air at once while visiting the humid rainforests of the Osa Peninsula.

These scarlet macaws were flying from tree to tree feeding on almonds. They were shrouded in a fine mist that blew in from the Pacific Ocean and sparkled in the sunlight. This is an uncropped, full frame photo. Look closely and you will see 5 macaws.
