sculthorpe moor

  1. Kingfisher in the rain

    Kingfisher in the rain

Shot from the Fen hide at Sculthorpe Moor, Norfolk.
  2. Saturday Fun.....

    Saturday Fun.....

..... or What the heck? Back at Sculthorpe Moor for this one. I was looking around, and in the distance saw a movement at the edge of the reed bed, bins couldn't make anything of it, and at the distance the scope wasn't a lot better. So.... full zoom on the camera but had to wait until I...
  3. Saturday fun.....

    Saturday fun.....

..... or Get me a longer spoon someone I don't know how I dare make fun of a Nuthatch, when they're so pretty and such a rare sighting for me.
  4. Nuthatch

    Nuthatch

This is the last picture from that Sculthorpe visit (at the moment anyway... might be some more fun shots). And this is the first Nuthatch I've uploaded into my Gallery for some reason. We don't get them here, so I have to go south to see them. This was a 'hoped' for sighting and I'd almost...
  5. Mr & Mrs Bullfinch

    Mr & Mrs Bullfinch

Nearly the end of this visit to Sculthorpe and wanted to have a picture of a pair of Bullfinches eating happily together.
  6. Egyptian Geese

    Egyptian Geese

.... with a friendly Tufted Duck. I didn't see these two arrive, they were just suddenly there, preening away quite the thing. Away at the far end of the water, so a big crop. They've opened a new hide since I was there, and I guess it would give closer views of this area of the pool.
  7. Saturday fun.....

    Saturday fun.....

..... or Saturday shame This Coal Tit made at least 3 visits to the bird table whilst I was there, but he was in and out so fast my reactions weren't good enough. He was the only one I saw there too.
  8. Blue Tit

    Blue Tit

This Blue Tit wouldn't turn round either... don't know what was going on in the bushes that day. Although I heard a few of these guys around the reserve, I didn't really see that many of them. I tried zooming in on the ring, but can't read it, sorry.
  9. Collared Dove

    Collared Dove

Continuing the 'bushed' theme from yesterday, this handsome Collared Dove was next to show himself.
  10. Mr Bullfinch

    Mr Bullfinch

Another lurker in the bushes. This guy wouldn't really turn his head nicely towards me, but kept looking deeper into the bush. I don't know if he was looking for his lady friend or whether he was worried about some danger in there.
  11. Mr Reed Bunting

    Mr Reed Bunting

In the bushes is the theme for today. Just clear of the nettles LOL Lovely birds, aren't they.
  12. Coot

    Coot

At least this Coot decided to come a bit closer to the hide end of the pool. Still quite a big crop though, but I like the water in this one for some reason... not too sure why though LOL.
  13. Mrs Reed Bunting

    Mrs Reed Bunting

There weren't nearly so many lady Reed Buntings coming to the feeder as the males, so I was pleased to see this one. In fact, I've hardly ever seen a female at all over the years.
  14. Mrs Pheasant

    Mrs Pheasant

Did you ever think these ladies could look cute? Well I think she does here LOL
  15. Great Tit

    Great Tit

The other day I showed you one that refused to come out into the open and was a bit obscured by leaves. Don't know if this is the same guy, but he sure redeemed himself by posing so well for me. I hardly ever get a chance to see these guys at home, so really pleased to get this one.
  16. Greenfinch

    Greenfinch

Not looking too grumpy either! LOL It really was quite hard to not look at the feed table, as there was so much going on there, constant activity. I hardly ever see Greenfinches at home, so this was a bit of a feast.
  17. Chaffinches

    Chaffinches

Then Mr & Mrs Chaffinch chased off the bunting. They really beginning to look their spring best in early May, aren't they.
  18. Lifer Three

    Lifer Three

Sculthorpe seems to have been working hard on improving the habitat to encourage Water Voles. A good place to watch for them was on a little bridge over one of the drainage channels. So I watched and much to my surprise one appeared swimming towards me. Over the moon about that!!
  19. House Hunting

    House Hunting

Back to Sculthorpe again today. The centre allowed me to take my car down the track to the start of the board walk. When I got out of the car I saw this Blue Tit fly in to check this box out, it was in a tree right next to where I'd parked!! The start of another great morning's birding.
  20. Kestrel

    Kestrel

As we were leaving the reserve that morning, my sister spotted this Kestrel sitting high up in a tree. Didn't nail the focus too well, as there were so many leaves in the way; this was the best of them.
  21. Cousins

    Cousins

Another treat for me was to see so many Bullfinches close too, and not high up a tree against the light!! The Chaffinches always want to get in on the act, don't they LOL. Couldn't really cut him out, even though he wasn't quite in focus.
  22. Collared Dove for Ammadoux

    Collared Dove for Ammadoux

He looked so lovely sitting in the trees, at least there wasn't a pheasant flying in to spoil the shot this time. This is for Ammadoux, as she doesn't manage to get pictures of these pretty guys.
  23. Reed Bunting and Chaffinch

    Reed Bunting and Chaffinch

More feeder action at the Whitley Hide. Such a treat for me to see Reed Buntings so close and wonderful to see so many of them too.
  24. Oystercatcher and Lapwing

    Oystercatcher and Lapwing

These were the only waders I'd seen at Sculthorpe so far and really distant ones, as they were right at the far end of the water pool. So this is really a record shot for the reserve. Strange there was only one of each... I'm so used to seeing these guys in big flocks LOL
  25. Robin

    Robin

Wandering along the woodland path at Sculthorpe, I spotted this Robin sitting on a low branch. I'm not experienced enough to cope with the tricky lighting conditions there (backlit under the leaves), but rather liked the effect... reminded me of rainforest pictures, 'cept it wasn't raining and...
