This short-eared owl is on the hunt for a vole or mouse which are abundant in the tidal wetland habitat. The background shows the waters of Puget Sound and the San Juan Islands.

It's always a treat for me to get a decent shot of these owls in flight. They are so fast and blend in with the background so well they create quite the challenge, for me anyway, to attain focus. I am always impressed by their wing span compared to their size.

When this short-eared owl landed with his back to me I kept saying to myself, "look this way".

Taken at dusk, just as the sun had set. Shot at a distance, heavily cropped and high ISO settings. Still quite pleased with the result - all things considered.

It's wonderful, to have these fantastic birds just up the road from where I live, this one was hunting over the saltmarsh, from two in the afternoon & coming so close. Off to do my gardening job this morning, so catch up later.
