  2. Palm Warbler

    Palm Warbler

One of the more common wood warblers passing through Ottawa during this years visit. Quite an "entertaining" species as they often appear walking along the trails!
  3. Palm Warbler

    Palm Warbler

The reddish cap and yellow undertail coverts along with its characteristic tail pumping behavior help identify this species. A scarce migrant in Texas, their main migratory route is further east. There are two rather easily identified subspecies. The Eastern breeding "S. p. hypochrysea" (Yellow...
  4. Palm Warbler

    Palm Warbler

The Palm Warbler has two rather easily identified subspecies. The Eastern breeding "S. p. hypochrysea" (Yellow Palm Warbler) winters on the Gulf Coast while the Western breeding "S. p. palmarum" winters in Florida and the Caribbean. Thus their migration routes crisscross with Eastern breeders...
  5. Eastern palm warbler

    Eastern palm warbler

Thanks to all on the ID front! This little warbler was flitting about in the scrub on the banks of fresh-water Lake Hammonasset.
  6. Palm Warbler

    Palm Warbler

This species was a scarce migrant in this area and this is the only one we saw. It appears to be a member of the nominate western subspecies which is duller than the eastern race. The reddish crown and yellow undertail coverts help identify this species along with its characteristic tail...

    palm warbler

I was fortunate enough to come upon this lifer during a recent visit to the Milwaukee area
  11. Palm warbler

    Palm warbler

Normally plain looking and common warblers down here, they do become quite fetching when they get their yellow colors and rusty caps for breeding. They normally winter in our area in non-breeding form, but sometimes we get lucky when they first arrive or are just ready to leave, and have some...
  12. Palm Warbler

    Palm Warbler

This species often forages on the ground pumping its tail like a pipit, but this one kept to the trees where it was determined to chase away any other birds that came near. This one shows characters of the nominate duller "Western" Palm Warbler, S. p. palmarum which normally winters in Florida...

This is the most common warbler in SW Florida during the winter months.

    Palm Warbler

October 5th must have been moving day. I saw several of these guys, some Chipping Sparrows, and some Yellow Rumped warblers flitting around the yard. That was the last day I saw any of them. Maybe they were all moving together on their way South for the winter.
  16. Palm Warbler

    Palm Warbler

These guys are still around as of yesterday as well. The Palm Warblers and the Yellow Rumped Warblers seem to be the last warblers to leave in the fall.
  17. Palm Warbler

    Palm Warbler

Have several of them mooching around the yard. Pretty sure it's a wave of them starting their migration south.
  18. Palm Warbler

    Palm Warbler

This is one of two Palm Warblers who seemed determined to take a bath, but kept getting chased off from the water pan by Starlings. I'd chase off the starlings, and the Warblers would come back. Eventually they got to take a nice enjoyable bath with no interruptions, then went on their way.

Guys and Gals I hope I have this right on the identification of the bird. Beautiful guy, I spotted at the Memorial Waterfront Park in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina. The title has been corrected.
  23. Palm Warbler

    Palm Warbler

Another great day of birding. I wish I could have done better but these guys will not stand still lol. First time again I have seen this bird.
