With Jim off on a jolly to Shetland, I thought I'd have a look through some of my pictures from these far flung islands.
Fair Isle is about half way between Orkney and the southern tip of Shetland. It was rather foggy for much of our 3 days there, so I didn't manage too many photos...
I've spent many hours trying to get these in flight.
Top of frame, bottom of frame, a tail, blue sky - you name it!
This one was photographed on Unst again, near the main Gannetry.
Maybe one day I'll get a decent shot, not easy though with the little screen on a p&s camera.
Jim going back to Shetland shortly, reminded me of the trip we had up to the top of the Island of Unst. The most northerly of the islands.
The nature reserve of Hermaness has one of the largest Gannetries to be found and just off-shore is the lighthouse of Muckle Flugga!

Way back in 2002 we had the most wonderful holiday in Shetland.
Amongst the islands we visited was the lovely island of Fetlar. We'd planned a long weekend but it was so nice there that we ended up staying for 6 days (rather put the schedule out LOL). It was so hot that the tarmac was melting...
Lying only two feet away from this puffin,it took me an hour to get this shot,every time I moved,the puffin moved,I thought he/she was going to fly away.
