This was the most obliging bird after he swooped of this post and missed his Target he flew up and landed on a post closer to my Car then sat and posed.Super bird!
Still trawling the archives, cant get motivated to get off my lazy bum and go looking for new uns. One from our trip to Portland Bill last year, it was great watching two of these beauties hunting over the fields.
"They say you get it after you've been out in the field, like you're seeing beyond"
A little reference from the film Full Metal Jacket there. ;)
At everyone's request I've kicked over a few stones on my hard drive and unearthed more hidden gems. Didn't put any perched SE Owls on...
Not a Barn Owl this time because while checking through my Owl shots I found this one and after checking my gallery realised I never put it one on with my other Short-eared ones that I took in Wales. PLEASE DON'T TELL ME OFF! ;)
Went post watching every evening on North Uist, the lack of tree`s certainly works well for photography.

Not as sharp an image as I would have liked as the light was fading rapidly!
About ten minutes before I took this image a male Hen Harrier floated across the road in front of my car -sadly he didn't hang around to get his picture taken!
Just finished this painting in watercolour of a Short-Eared Owl, I posted the photo which I used for reference, a couple of weeks ago, Ive added my own backgraund to give the bird a bit more dignity
A Short-eared owl perched upon his tussock!.....the sunset warming his feathers and making him sleepy!.....hence we were able to get within 20 feet of him (with the aid of some skillful nynja crawling and artful shadow work!!)
As the sun was setting this owl appeared. Mostly it was staying low to the gound in the shadows but every now and again it flew slightly higher where the last rays of the setting sun just to say caught it.
