Up to 5 hunting in the area where this was taken. Such gorgeous birds.

After chasing another SEO off the field, this one landed in a tree very close to us, spun its head around and gave us such a stare!

Taken in rather dark conditions, at about 4:15pm. Wide open at F4, ISO 1000 and 1/100th. Surprised me how much detail the camera captured!

My turn............a dull, murky day so this is the best(ish) of a bad lot but I think I'll be back again on a sunnier day. Good to see you again Rod.

Just typed in "Short-Earled Owl" and it's made me giggle. Makes a change from Breaded Tit I suppose. Another from the weekend, of one of these gorgeous hunters.

Doing battle in the skies. They're hard to track at the best of times, but when they start chasing one another in the sky and turning on a six-pence, it's usually down to a slice of luck if you get them in the shot.

With one forced to ground, the attacker dive-bombed, though it never seemed to make contact. Love the expression on the face of the grounded owl. :-)

One SEO showed at my local patch late afternoon, up to three have been reported there, the light was very poor when I grabbed this shot, had to use a high ISO 1600 & a clean up of noise in neat image. Hope to get far better shots of these wonderful Owls, they can show early in the afternoon...

One from back in February, when a crowd of very lucky birders and photographers alike, were treated to exceptional views of this owl at a site in Lincs.
