I was going to bin this shot due to the out of focus foreground and messy background. After looking at it again though I think it shows just how well these birds blend into their environment.
Woke up to a lovely frost this morning so took the Dog up to a local area good for upland birds.Along with these guys I saw Meadow Pipit,Raven,Buzzard,Stonechat and good numbers of Wheatear. This was taken from the car en route.
Its great to see and hear these birds back on the hills, this shot though was taken last year.
I came across it whilst looking through some old files. It was taken with my old Sigma 500mm 7.2 prime which will autofocus but cant be stopped down hence the very narrow DOF.I think it works OK though...
I was stalking these Skylarks, as they fed and sheltered from the wind, the next minute theres this sh*t machine jumping up my legs, and up and away go the birds. The stupid woman owner of this ill-behaved animal, just stood there and laughed, makes you wonder how some peoples brains, or lack of...
I had "Pipit Fever" when I took this and assumed I had some oddity of a Pipit till a few folks set me on the right path, alas, just a Skylark.
Haven't heard a Skylark for months, until last friday. It was a sunny/warmer day and a couple of my local birds decided to endulge in a singing competition. Saturday night saw 2 inches of snow fall, followed by a severe frost, so I doubt I will hear them again for a while.
You no what it's like you fall asleep on your back wake with the old joints feeling very stiff and just flop on to your belly with your wing streched out to get some relief. I had a smile on my face for days after taking these shots of this very relaxed Skylark.
This skylark was carrying a grasshopper back to her nest. Unfortunately I got in the way, so she waited on a stone until I was out of the way. Luckily I had my camera with me and was able to capture the moment.
