hi guys not often i get any capture of this one so sharing my long distance capture with you all.was chuffed to get it.

Smew, female ( or immature). Marquenterre, Picardie. Late February 2013. Poor light.

A bit closer this time.

... or are they? He seems to have turned his back on Carole's favourites LOL. Another big crop I'm afraid.

Well 3 of them - couldn't get the Tufted Ducks in as well, so you'll have to make do with Smew, Coot and Goldeneye - sorry! Wonder if I'll manage back there in some brighter weather?

For a change I went somewhere else yesterday. Piper Dam not far from Dundee; I've only been twice before and not for some years. However, Kawwauser has been recently and got some cracking pictures of a Smew. After a while scanning around, I eventually picked him up in the middle of the loch...

He's been drawing in the togs of late but rarely comes close to the shore.

It was surprisingly calm at Draycote on Saturday and while the boats weren't out, the smew was close in. Lovely looking bird.

I managed another close encounter with this beauty last saturday when it came really close to the bank a few times but it was continually spooked by 'bread chuckers'. Luckily I managed a couple of shots before it flew off to a quieter corner of the lake.

Thought I'd post another of this fabulous duck which stopped off at my local water last weekend.
