The usually hard to find Wilson's snipe has been popping up a lot lately - this marks the 4th time I've photographed one in 4 weekends, and this time at a different wetlands than the previous shots. I'm not complaining, though!
Another lucky spotting last weekend - this very elusive and very well hidden bird is one I may get to see once or twice a year, and some years not at all.
Several were out in the open feeding, next to a waterhole in the early evening. Uncommon behaviour here, they normally feed at night under the cover of darkness and keep out of sight during the day.

Taken at RSPB Greylake this morning with Nikon p1000.
I was hoping they would be quite close and intended to use my DSLR. Because of the ice they stayed about 60yds away in an area that was thawing.
The picture is not that sharp but I'm always amazed at how good the p1000 is at that sort of distance
