An unexpected early freeze gave hope to finding Snipe feeding in the shallow ditches that run through bog. An early rise and short drive, I found the Bog in ideal conditions for my foray with new gear. The resulting image was first shot of a bird,

Have seen Snipe many times but normally skulking or too far away to capture. However, this guy was visible form the hide at Titchwell (on a very grey early morning) and got progressively nearer until frightened away by a mad lapwing!
I forgot to say when I posted this......I'm dead chuffed tonight as one of my pics was shown on Autumnwatch last night on a segment on Goose ID, it was the pic of 3 Brent Geese flying which is in my gallery.......My 15mins (well 1 min really) has happened.
One from the archives. A Snipe in a typically cluttered setting at Minsmere. I see the scientific name is Gallinago gallinago. That is going to have me singing Queen's 'Bohemian Rhapsody' to myself for the rest of the day. Ron
