This obliging Snowy Egret was kind enough to put on a display for us at the mixed heronry at Gatorland. The bird was so close I had to fight the temptation to stroke its plumes.

With breeding seasons end, the last of the lacey plumage persists.

This guy was only the third reported Snowy Egret within the city of Ottawa (I believe the source of this info is the Ottawa Field Naturalists Club). He was present for a couple of weeks until the canal was filled for summer boating.
