Behind me was the Pacific surf, pounding on the rocky California coast; in front of me was this small quiet pond, with a Snowy Egret intent on finding a mid-morning snack beneath the algal scum.
Hurricane Ike destroyed everything that once stood on the Texas City Dike, including the road. However it is possible to walk out on to it and take pictures (at least I did)
