    1 in a Million Shot

I have been doing nature related photography since 2005 and have never had a Snowy Owl or any raptor catch a wild rodent and decide to land directly in front of me let alone during golden hour sunlight. It was an amazing experience we had this evening. Have been shoooting this several times a...
  5. Snow White

    Snow White

Almost completely white but not quite on this Snowy Owl. Dark day but the sun just barely popped out on this giving a little light to the left side of the snowy.
  6. Snowy Egret

    Snowy Egret

Taken at the Martin Luther King Jr. Regional Shoreline at about 10m. Closest I've ever been to a Snowy Egret who wasn't in the brush or otherwise safe by virtue of the terrain. Was really surprised he'd land so close to where people and dogs were walking. This is the companion still image to...
  7. Snowy Egret Landing

    Snowy Egret Landing

Taken at the Martin Luther King Jr. Regional Shoreline at about 10m. Was caught by surprise when trying to take some BiF of this egret and he decided to land on the railing of the pedestrian bridge right near me. Didn't get really stellar photos because I was fiddling with settings that day...

    Snowy Egret

Taken at the Martin Luther King Jr. Regional Shoreline at about 6m. Another from the same series of shots as my previous egret post. He was quite photogenic.

    Snowy Egret

Taken at the Martin Luther King Jr. Regional Shoreline at about 6m. Another from the same series of shots as my previous egret post. I just liked the pose on this one, like a woman wrapping herself in a shawl against the cold.
  10. Snowy Egret

    Snowy Egret

Taken at the Martin Luther King Jr. Regional Shoreline at about 6m. Another from the same series of shots as my previous egret post. I guess he needed some height to see over something...but he was being quite intense and all but ignored us being so close.
  11. Snowy Egret

    Snowy Egret

Taken at the Martin Luther King Jr. Regional Shoreline at about 5m. Another from the same series of shots as my previous egret post. He spotted something on the ground and later speared a bug.
  12. Snowy Egret

    Snowy Egret

Taken at the Martin Luther King Jr. Regional Shoreline at about 5m. This egret was reasonably tolerant of us getting close so we must have spent 10-15 minutes photographing him. Meant I could spend some time trying portrait shots, different camera settings, etc.
  13. Snowy Egret

    Snowy Egret

Taken at the Martin Luther King Jr. Regional Shoreline at about 30m. Yeah, I know, I photograph these alot. I enjoy the challenge of getting good photos of white birds: it really lets me fine-tune how much I can squeeze out of my camera. And this particular park seems to have a small number of...

    Snowy Owl

The word got out that a snowy owl was seen during the daylight hours at the Muskegon (Michigan) Water Treatment Plant about 30 minutes from my house. I ventured out the next morning and found him right out in the middle of an open field!

Bit of luck to catch this snowy just as it was taking off.
