This one, I think is a song sparrow. There was such a number and variety of sparrows and waders at the preserve that day that I'll have to go back and watch them some more, but I don't think I'll get back there this week. Too much work to do.
Much of the landscape is barren, dessicated and wind scoured. But, in one small cleft of a hill-side there is this patch of verdent green. It means only one thing...water. From withing the depths of the rock and soil a spring has struggled it's way to the surface and created this small oasis...
I love these sweet birds. They seem to travel in mixed flocks with the Juncos and White-throated Sparrows but I've only seen two or three together at a time. They don't seem to form large flocks like the Juncos do.

I love these sweet little Sparrows! I have three of them coming into the feeders with my mixed group of Sparrows and Juncos every day now. Most of the other Sparrows will roost hidden in the shrubs when taking a break from feeding but the Song Sparrows sometimes find a spot right out in the open...
Well I can certainly see where these birds got their names from....what beautiful songs they sing! I took a quick gander at a little wildlife management area that I don't normally go to, and the sounds and songs of these sparrows filled the air! Difficult to see, though, as the early morning...
