Light had yet begun to penetrate the interior of the thick woods surrounding the the ponds. The air is still heavy from the loss of energy during the night. An earthy aromatic scent, mixed with the swampy odors of the ponds, permeated the air. Yellow-throats were already establishing boundaries...
This sparrow was seen near my home in Oregon. I really like the pattern of the plumage so I kept the background very simple to keep the focus on the bird
Amazingly I think this is the first picture of a Song Sparrow that I have ever posted (I have hundreds of shots of them) but this one was so cute splashing away. He didn't take notice of me at all.
6 inch Whitish breast with brown streaks and a dark central dot; reddish brown crown with a gray central stripe, gray eyebrows.
There are not to many Hummers out but I will live.

This lovely sparrow has been hanging about the feeders lately but is a bit shy about having his photo taken and flits away the second the lens is pointed his way. I had to crop this quite a bit and it was another taken at ISO800 at 1/80. We are supposed to get a bit of sun between the clouds...
I am going to try and document this species of bird throught the year for the purpose of archiving the moult from winter to spring. It is a good candidtate as it comes redily to bird calls and songs. Stay tuned for comparative plumage.
