I've blurred a few parts of the Starling, so it shouldn't upset anyone who is squeamish.
Through the window and high ISO due to poor light and smeary windows.
(That wire mesh is there for the Starlings to hide behind after getting wet, as the juves can't fly until they dry off. Nothing in my...
Took a Starling yesterday evening; wet and smeary windows from the rain all day, but I found a cleanish bit of glass ;)
She ate most of the Starling in about 40 minutes, then flew up into a distant Sycamore tree to finish it off
This is probably an adult female; I've not looked properly yet
After a bit of debate; this is an adult (well 3cy+) female. Through the double glazing etc, and I zoomed in as the Starling was looking straight at me, and I started to feel guilty (not that I could or would have helped it, it was mortally wounded) ;)
(I uploaded this yesterday, but changed my...
I'm now sure this bird isn't a juvenile, but I can't be sure on it's age or sex.
Here's another close-up through the double glazing. Oh, and the bird isn't calling, it's panting, probably due to the heat. Although birds do pant when they get overexcited too (Pigeons do it when they get in a...
Here's a shot taken during the attack. There was no noise from the Starling, as the Sparrowhawk's talon was inserted in an area preventing the prey from making noise. I can't describe it fully, as it'll be a bit gruesome for some of you.
Through the double glazing, and I couldn't get all of...
I thought I'd upload this quick, and catch up with comments tomorrow, as I'm a bit busy ATM.
These still turn up each year, and this juvenile took a young Starling this afternoon
Through the double glazing as usual; I'll upload "raw" shots with prey tomorrow
Looking from the upstairs back bedroom hide window, I wouldn't be able to get this shot now, as all the leaves on the neighbours tree has blocked this view completely.
Been a while since I've uploaded anything, so thought I share a couple of photos from the last two weeks of birds with horizontal bars on their chest.
First up, Mrs Sparrowhawk. Taken through the kitchen window after she'd caught a pigeon in the garden.
Well Peeps,
As the weather has been nice lately, we've been quite busy working on the house and garden just lately, so no time for birding. Yesterday I was outside putting wood stain on some trellis work, when I heard a crash in the Ivy above my head. I looked up, and see this...
