Poor light and grubby windows (I wasn't up to cleaning them, and the Pigeons didn't help by rubbing their backside against the glass ;) ) for this shot, but I wanted to add it to my gallery as it's the palest Sparrowhawk that I've seen.
I'd guess at a 2cy female, and she showed up on Friday...
This is very poor IQ; dull and wet and wet windows too. But this is the first time I've seen one of the Sparrowhawks catch and eat a Mouse. I've seen them swoop and miss, but not actually catch one.
The 2cy male that I uploaded a pic of yesterday, returned this morning. He was just perched in...
I uploaded this once, but accidentally deleted it (I saw your comment, Alok, thanks)
A 2cy male that spent a while digesting a meal he ate elsewhere. Very windy - loads of twigs in the way - and he's 25ft up one of my trees. Poor light and slow shutter too.
Not through the window
Dreadfully poor light and awful weather has pretty much curtailed my photography for the time being. Here's another of the sparrowhawk taken two weeks ago. I'll make this the final post from this set.
I've been informed on another forum that this is a yound female of around 8-9 months old, so a...
.. although I really don't know why as there was only the occasional firing of the shutter and I certainly kept my distance at around 45ft (15M). However, she soon settled back to the task in hand!
Don't look a gift-horse in the mouth so they say and when this young female sparrowhawk flew into one of our trees I certainly didn't. The only downside being that no matter how I tried I just couldn't get a clear shot through the branches as she'd positioned herself right in the middle of the...
This is the family of young Sparrowhawks {4} I rescued & hand reared, back in 1970, while working as an Underkeeper at Dunsany Estate, Co. Meath.
Their parents were shot by the Head Keeper, one of the 'Old School' & he was quite happy to kill the youngsters too, but I managed to...
This male Sparrowhawk sat patiently in the gloom in my garden this morning, listening intently to the Blue Tits hiding in the bushes . . . but left empty-handed.
I didn't post this as a great photo, but as an aid to telling a sad tale.
This Sparrowhawk landed right in front of me this morning, just on the other side of a small clearing & proceeded to relax, raising one foot, so I was excited cause I thought I had lots of time to watch it.
Sadly, it...
It was as if this little fella was just waiting for me to fill the Feeders, because within 5 mins of me filling them up, my Finches & Tits all dived for cover ... all except one unfortunate Greenfinch.
I posted this earlier, but I thought, since it was a grubby shot taken through a dirty...
If you wonder what this Sparrowhawk is looking at, right below it there are two Woodpigeons acting as if they are garden orniments, probebly scared stiff (lol)
Thanks everyone for all your comments this week, Andy.
