I walked up to the cemetery that day hoping to see warblers and siskins foraging in the birches. Some years we get masses of them there around early September. But this year ... none. Still, was worth checking the pines along the top ridge of the park, and there I found a family of Spotted...

    Warsaw, Poland, yesterday

I saw the birds in a small woods by a river, at the edge of a much larger meadow with human settlements nearby as well. My guesses are an unknown flycatcher for pics 1-2 (a seemingly unusual mix of qualities: some may be due to lighting and some due to artifacts), a female/juvenile chaffinch for...

    Spotted flycatcher

A dozen of them in the oaks today. Their fav. spot to catch insects. In fact it is exactly because of this reason why they try to breed there and get predated again and again. Crows never forget the nesting sites of other birds.

    The circle of life

After the failed broods due to nest predation in one area, did I finally find two flycatcher families with youngsters last week. Interesting to read https://www.caringforgodsacre.org.uk/birds-in-burial-grounds-part-1-guest-post-by-john-arnfield-chair-shropshire-ornithological-society/ and part...

    Confused or unusual support

A juvenile Spotted flycatcher with a butterfly in its beak from one parent who has already left the scene. The youngster swallowed the moth and took the next insect. What is wrong in this picture? Not the best quality but def. unusual.

    Spotted flycatcher

A very busy species @ this time of the year. Their nests are filled with hungry youngsters. I captured this one during a break from hunting insects. I already got plenty pictures of them with insects. Hope things will be good and they can successfully raise the nestlings. @ digiscoper: I hope...

No time for ritual feeding. Not an everyday capture. What do you think? Is she already convinced of him as food provider or is he a bad cook? Heavily cropped and denoised.

I'd have gladly tried for more, but the bird left, perhaps for tastier flies elsewhere.

Last bird of the hike, just as I was packing my gear up for the trek home, I spotted this Spotted Flycatcher, perched on a branch overlooking the parking lot behind a shopping center. Probably a good place to find flies back there near the bins, but also right on the edge where a garden, a...
