Looks like the birds are turning the tables on us photographers and using fieldcraft to evade capture, I have no idea whats hiding behind here :o)
I did have a serious contender for the competition but thought this one more appropriate
Actually, I think he may have caught it on the way to the wire, rested there briefly, and was now headed back to the tree with his catch. (There may have been a nest hidden deep within the tree somewhere, although most chicks are out of the nests by now.) Anyhooo, kinda cool to catch a flying...
I did have flies. There were nasty swarms of them in the muggy heat today. I wish there had been more flycatchers about. But this one was keeping busy ... or at least keeping an eye on things.
Less than an hour before fledging. We have had flycatchers successfully breeding in this location for many many years. The box is in full view through a Velux roof window on a single storey part of the house. The birds were not disturbed to permit the photos - they are fully accustomed to us...
this one came as i was taking shots of the barred warbler, did not realize that until the b warbler flew away then i saw this beauty perched straight in front of the camera.
frankly i was not very happy with the shots, now as i saw them again thought the look is cute. Hope you like it.
thanks...
Without doubt one of my favourite birds. Dredged up from my 2005 archive. I'm not sure how I managed to get this on top of a lamp post and it is only a small crop too....I must have been on stilts.
As far as I am aware this species did not breed in the county last year.
