When I realized why this bird was lingering on the edge of the roof, I moved a few steps away and let it reach its nest under a roof of a house in the middle of the village square ;)
Saw a few of these last week but most were on phone wires. The few that I saw on more interesting perches, were invariably in deep shade. Had to use live view for the first time to achieve focus on this bird. Was impressed with how bright the LCD image was considering the gloom. My eyesight is...
We stayed at the hotel right next to Gigrin farm on monday night. Had a look around the grounds on tuesday morning before we left, and found a pair of these little beauties in the tree next to the car.
This is my first of this bird.
It was taken in Blackfirs Staffordshire within walking distance where I live. I was there a couple of months ago looking for owls in the woods but didn't see any. Scanning the top of the canopy of the tree's I saw a movement, I just managed to get a couple of...
One of the birds that visited the garden in Devon most days, and sat perched doing what these pretty little birds do. It was quite special for me, as not only was it a first for me to take a picture of, but a first time I had seen this species in around ten years.
A cracking wee bird & one of my most favourite passerines.

Unfortunately not quite the pose I wanted...like that in the other picture which is, it just didn't happen. I suppose the bird had become disinterested in me or didn't see me as a threat. Great birds spotted flycatchers!
You will note after looking at the other shot how the light changed...
Continuing a theme... spotted flycatchers. I found my self a chair in the college gardens at Maynooth in Ireland and plonked my self at the end of a bicycle rail /bar and just hoped the spotted flycatcher would land on it to hawk insects from. For an hour or so, it used every perch I could see...
Another shot in the shade. If it wasn't persisting it down I'd be looking for these today. They are rare in my county which is a pitty they are definitely one of my favourite birds.
