I was getting ready to take Pete out as he was a bit housebound due to the weather and I was loading up the car with the camera when I heard the local Magpies making a bit of a din, looked up and saw...
This was a real bonus! It had never been recorded at Laratinga Wetlands before, and I've only ever seen one before in my 20 years in Australia, so to get a reasonable photo into the bargain was very gratifying!
Not a common species in Sydney, they are a bird of the open fields west of the Great Dividing Ranges. However, they do turn up just about every year. This year, they are everywhere around Penrith at least.
