spur-winged plover

Being off line for sometime due to very bad winter storms causing power cuts!!! Here is hoping I can get thru. Thank you everyone for your kind comments.

Very noisy birds, not popular amongst some people. I like them.

They love chasing Harriers.

While cruising around my retirement village, I spotted this Plover feeding on a grassy area.

The extra height of the Land Cruiser made this photo possible!!

I was looking at something else when this came out of nowhere so took a grab shot and just managed to squeeze it in the frame

A look of sheer terror on this ones face while taking a bath.

Just to show this recent immigrant from Australia. They are coming quite common now.

Worth a comparison with the Masked Plover ( Vanellus miles )posted by Peter Day on 18th July. The Masked Plover is found much further North than here and has a much longer Wattle and no black feathers behind the neck and side of breast.

Very really seen and captured.

I have not shown this bird for sometime now.

Seen a short walk from where the Wattled Plovers were at the Kotu Sewage Ponds.

I am getting to grips with Canon SX60, finding it much better to lower the magnification.

Shown as a contrast to the Northern species Vanellus miles

These birds were self introduced from Australia.
