My prior posting shows this bird swimming. This less typical position shows it perched (about 0.4 m above the water), revealing its strikingly patterned lobed feet.
We spotted this shy species in the shade of tree and shrub branches overhanging the edge of a slow-flowing river. The next photo I will post will show why this species is sometimes called American Finfoot.
Hi, everyone . . . this was taken in 2004 when my wife and I visited Alaska. I was looking at all of your shots and thought I'd finally join the crowd. Now I have to post a pic of both of us birding together; she's the photogenic one.
