    Saw this on my backyard and was really surprised. This is not a species that come to houses. Well, At least not here where I live anyway. This is the only shot I could get.

    bit of a struggle to ID this one; it's a female Great Antshrike; the few similarities with the black male with a spotted tail are the red eye and a white throat.

    Great Antshrike (Taraba major subsp. obscurus) Male, species sexually dimorphic. Bosque del Ro Tigre Lodge, Osa Peninsula, Puntarenas Province, Costa Rica. About 1 km east of the town Dos Brazos de Ro Tigre. Pacific secondary rain forest at ca. 130 m (427 ft) elevation.

    This was a speciality at a newish stop run by a really enthusiastic couple called Rancho Sua Mox near Puerto Quito, west slope of the Andes. Over a cold local beer you can watch the feeder until this beauty approaches...plus other birds on the estate including Great Antshrike, White-thighed...

    A large skulking Antshrike which rarely breaks cover but can often be seen peeking out of dense undergrowth at close range. These birds move about in pairs & were frequently drawn to the edge of the feeders where they darted out to grab insects feeding on the fruit laid out.
