  1. Not keen

    Not keen

This Australian Brushturkey couldn't have been less interested in clementines, as he walked straight past it. This picture shows their tail shape very well I think.
  2. Evening visitors

    Evening visitors

Hans had been out after dark every evening since my arrival, but I'd not questioned it of course. This day the reason was revealed. He knew there were Bettong around, but they only come out after dark.... and Hans had tempted them with some bread (at least I think it was bread - wasn't too...
  3. Outback Taromeo

    Outback Taromeo

Before it got dark, I climbed up the hill at the back of the property to take a view of the land and thought you might like to see an overview of Hans & Judy's property. This is where they lived when I visited them, but they've moved now. On the right is the dam he refers to, which he dug out...
  4. In the shade

    In the shade

The sun was really getting low now, and behind the trees; this meant the drive where this Common Bronzewing was pecking about was completely in the shade. Sadly that meant there was now pretty wing patch to see!!
  5. Muddled....

    Muddled....

.... and who can blame Maned Ducks for that!!! They've two other common names, one of which is Maned Goose! So people can't decide what family they belong to LOL. Hence the scientific name of Chenonetta is a monotypic genus, meaning no other species shares it. Lengthening shadows meant the...
  6. She was there too!

    She was there too!

It seems the female Superb Fairywren was never far away from hubby, for she was busy foraging on the lawn too. TTTW
  7. Fast movers

    Fast movers

Even on continuous mode, it can be hard to freeze an image of a Superb Fairywren, with that long tail, it's hard to get a picture with both the front and back end still. They're really very fidgety on occasion LOL. I got this male through my bedroom window, which looked out onto a different...
  8. A tasty brownie

    A tasty brownie

After lunch I explored the grounds round the house and for some reason these rather plain Brown Honeyeaters really appealed to me. At least, I think they're attractive!
  9. Dusky

    Dusky

I took this Torresian Crow in the fast fading light but couldn't resist giving it a go.
  10. Getting wet

    Getting wet

It doesn't really look like it in this picture, but it was absolutely pouring with rain when I took it!! Thought this male Superb Fairywren didn't seem to be too bothered by it LOL. Pretty, isn't he.
  11. Clean-up Squad

    Clean-up Squad

I think the whole population of Double-barred Finches in the area descended to clear up all these seeds LOL When you see them, they're really small and look like mice scurrying around. Saturday Fun
  12. Browed and barred

    Browed and barred

A pair of Red-browed Finches appeared, along with their distant cousins, the ever-present Double-barred Finches. Quite a difference in size too.
  13. Pretty face

    Pretty face

Stunning blue make-up on these guys don't you think LOL A Blue-faced Honeyeater decided to hang out on the rotary drier, but he had to move as Judy and I had lots of washing to do following our trip away.
  14. Plain

    Plain

Although there's nothing remarkable to look at in a Brown Honeyeater, I think they are very attractive and rather sweet looking.
  15. Tranquil

    Tranquil

Quiet descended with the arrival of a Peaceful Dove. Sweet little doves these, and when I say small, they are smaller than our Collared Doves.
  16. Mum

    Mum

A female Superb Fairywren to join Gary's male today!!! Obviously she has youngsters to feed so she didn't stop there long, only got a couple of pictures before she was off!
  17. Colourful

    Colourful

It seems a while since I showed you a Rainbow Lorikeet; this one sitting on a fence post trying to decide whether to come into the garden!
  18. Itchy look out post

    Itchy look out post

I had a wander round the grounds to see what I might have missed during our morning in the forest. Here was a Torresian Crow sitting on top of a termite mound. Obviously a good vantage point though..... Saturday Fun
  19. Pied

    Pied

A female Magpie-Lark seemed to be rather thirsty.... but did I tell you that the weather was unseasonably warm, even for Australia!!!? Hans had a nearly full time job topping up the numerous water bowls.
  20. Quiet for once

    Quiet for once

Back at home there was a Noisy Friarbird having a drink.
  21. Cheeky

    Cheeky

A Sulphur-crested Cockatoo was another early riser but it looks like Hans hadn't topped up the water as yet LOL
  22. Early morning light

    Early morning light

First thing in the morning found a Common Bronzewing sitting on the fence. What beautiful colours in that wing; such pretty pigeons
  23. Really, really cute!!

    Really, really cute!!

Hans had gone outside to do something in the garage and when he came back he called me to come. In one of the pot plants was this sweet wee Green Tree Frog. They're really quite small too.
  24. Lady in a hedge

    Lady in a hedge

One of my favourite picture types, birds peeking out of bushes! And this one of my favourite species from my trip, a Superb Fairywren. This is the female (hubby was hiding somewhere LOL).
  25. Heading for bed

    Heading for bed

I had my first wander round the grounds after sorting ourselves out from the trip and there was a Red-necked Wallaby browsing on his own. Sorry to say he took flight when he saw me! That was virtually the last of the light by then.
