Occasionally, I get the odd Tree Sparrow visiting my garden. A welcome variation from the usual House Sparrows - especially when they perch so close to the windows.
Why is it that we seem to value most the birds we have fewest of? I have dozens of House Sparrows at the feeders at any given moment, so I'm extra tickled when a Tree Sparrow or two turns up among them. Husband's cousins get only Tree Sparrows at their feeders, so they say they find House...
This is one of two Tree Sparrows who have been building a nest in our nestbox over the last few days. They seem to be carrying in a variety of items - leaves, small twigs and feathers. This also happened in October last year but they then abandoned it after all their effort and never came back...
